Person Centred/Talking therapy also known as PCT is a non directive approach where the client takes the reins & speaks about what they wish!
We don't push you to speak about anything and the therapist is there to guide and support "No agenda, No rush".
It is a great source of therapy 'to get things off your chest' and allows clients to speak about trauma, the past, current issues and also worries about the future.
This therapy is great for low self-esteem, low confidence, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, stress, phobias, panic attacks, alcoholism, trauma recovery, eating disorders, relationship problems and many other issues.
CBT is still classed as a talking therapy, but it is a more directive and structured approach. Instead of the patient leading sessions, the therapist will use a more goal-oriented approach.
It starts off by identifying your current issues/negative thought patterns and then uses problem solving skills to combat them. Instead of focusing on why certain behaviours occur, it allows room to explore how to change them.
It also includes a lot of reflective work outside of sessions where the therapist will provide "homework" to help clients with the issues spoken about. Clients get a better understanding of behaviours and learn to develop confidence in their own abilities, how to face certain fears/ situations while learning about strategies to calm the mind & body.
This therapy is great for depression, anxiety, alcohol and drug use problems, servere mental health problems, PTSD, sleep problems,
OCD and many more issues.
EMDR is very different from other therapies as it uses rapid eye movement to help process traumatic memories. It doesn't really require talking about anything distressing as it focuses on changing the emotions, thoughts or behaviours that result from a distressing experience.
This therapy uses your natural ability to process trauma through utilising a network of communicating brain cells across many areas of the brain. It looks at how your brain naturally stores distressing memories differently to everyday memories and helps your brain to move those memories to a different part of the brain (hippocampus) so clients become less triggered in everyday life.
You will learn a lot more about how the brain works, why people become triggered and how to process traumatic memories.
EMDR is great for PTSD, trauma, distressing memories, phobias, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, personality disorders and many more issues.
